the trends: pitti uomo spring 2017 street style
That time of year has come. Pitti Uomo has made its way back around, and menswear enthusiasts and street style hopefuls alike flock to Florence, Italy to take a peak at the men’s Spring 2018 collections. The street scene during Pitti, as it is affectionately called, is always fun to observe. Men tend to dress flashier than usual to catch the eye of the hundreds of photographers in attendance, all hoping to be shot and featured in a style roundup. But the photos that come from the shows are a great way to pick up on trends in the menswear world for the season. Here, I’ve rounded up some trends I spotted from this year’s Pitti street style.
stripes, stripes, and more stripes!
A big trend I noticed this season were stripes. All sizes, colors, and variations are here – everything from seersucker to bold thick stripes! I did notice a lot of these striped looks came in matching sets, and that these sets were often in blue. A sub-trend? Perhaps! I do tend to favor the matching look that a lot of these men dared to wear, which leads us into our next trend…
monochromatic looks
I am a huge fan of monochrome looks. I find them effortlessly classy and fashion-forward. A man who dares to wear one color from head to toe is surely a trendsetter. And bonus points if you can match the exact shade, like these gents!
mellow yellow
Color is an easy spot when looking at street style. Pitti attendees favor bold, bright colors, as they tend to draw the eye of photographers more than an all black look. That being said I am a little surprised by this color trend. Yellow is not an easy color to pull off and still look masculine, dapper, or fashionable. But many a street style wannabe tried, with success, the color this season! The shade I found most often is a sunshine or banana yellow, seen here in full suits as well as separates. Kudos to these daring dudes for trying such a bold color. And hey, looks like their brave choice got the attention they wanted!

And since we are on the topic of street style and Pitti, I wanted to share a favorite of mine that I saw floating around the internet last year. Aaron Christian made a short video documenting the street style enthusiasts at Pitti, lovingly referenced as "Pitti Peacocks" for their flamboyant and attention-seeking style. I thought the video was hilarious, and really shows how the street style game has affected fashion shows! Take a look at the video below, and don't forget to leave a comment!
